Sicko makes us angry, sad
We saw Michael Moore's new movie, Sicko, the other night. The fact that Al Qaeda prisoners at Guantanamo Bay get better health care than many Americans made us angry, and the fact that Ground Zero volunteers who now suffer from respiratory disease had to go to Cuba to get health care brought tears to our eyes. The film is playing at the Birmingham Theatre. It is worse when someone mistakes a Michael Moore movie for reality. That’s like thinking silver surfers really can surf through the air because it was so realistic looking in a movie.
Posted by Stephen Pravel on 07/07 at 10:14 PMThe cost of universal health care for all Americans for one year is estimated at about $85 billion. $85 billion was the original allocation for the 10-12 week “instant victory” in Iraq. Since then we have spent...or squandered...10 times that amount.
To ignore the facts and attack the messenger is just plain foolish. Moore might be a lot of things that you don’t like about Progressives but he is not a liar.Posted by Anonymous on 07/08 at 05:29 PMI don’t how this relates to Birmingham other than the theater reference.
The Buzz’s own charter is:
“Promoting intelligence and reason in city government.
Our mission: to inform and involve ALL Birmingham citizens.”

Posted by on 07/09 at 10:07 AMOne correction is in order, Clint. Not all the prisoners at Guantanimo are ‘Al Qeada” as you stated. In fact, some of them are mere citizens with no ties to any terrorist group and none have been charged with anything since the constitution has been suspended. We don’t actually know this for sure since even the identity of the “detainees” is classified butI suppose they deserve health care to take care of the damage done by torture....oops, I mean “interrogation”.

Posted by on 07/09 at 11:14 AM#5: Your amplification is noted. Neither I nor Moore said all prisoners were Al Qaeda. We just said Al Qaeda prisoners were getting better care than 9/11 volunteers.
Posted by on 07/09 at 12:37 PMYou gettin’ a little kick-back from Mike for the promo? You can “say what [you] want to,” but much more drivel like this and the anti-Cheney ad, and I’m hitting “un-subscribe.” I really thought this had a B’ham focus (even acknowleding that B’Ham is a [very small] part of the USA).
Posted by Buffy on 08/01 at 06:08 PMGo ahead, Buff. I dare ya. I double-dare ya. What do I need to do to put you over the top? Call Bush (again) a moron?
