In this edition: BULLETIN: Your voice must be heard TONIGHT!

The Birmingham City Commission will vote on two important items tonight.

Your voice is important, and WILL influence the vote.

1) The Ethics Ordinance. Despite good intentions, the Commission is poised to approve an ordinance that is poorly written, overbearing, intrusive and invites abuse. See Shelli Weisberg’s column atop the Buzz at http://www.bhambuzz.org.
2) An amendment to the Zoning Ordinance that expands the conditions for gaining site plan approval before the Planning Board. If you think the Ethics Ordinance is poorly written, read this one. Birmingham’s City Attorney has gone on record with serious questions about the “nebulous requirements set forth in the proposed ordinance.” The proposal is another in a series of ordinance changes designed to enhance the Planning Board’s power to stanch development. The Commission meeting begins at 8 p.m. in the Commission Chambers on the second floor of City Hall.

Discussion of the Ethics Ordinance will most likely begin about half an hour after the meeting begins – at around 8:30 p.m.

Discussion of the Zoning Ordinance will most likely begin more than an hour after the meeting begins – between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Citizen comment is important, and influences votes. If you cannot attend the meeting, send an email to the Comissioners.
